Birds of Jalisco

In late 2023, I was accepted into an artist's residency in Jalisco, Mexico. By January of the following year, I had packed a carry-on and personal bag with my art supplies and a few clothes and was on a plane to a small town about an hour south from the city of Guadalajara.
Over the course of my 2-week residency at Anima Casa Rural, I ended up creating 20 paper collages inspired by all the different birds I identified throughout Jalisco. I was limited with time, but I luckily had a good amount of days where I just relaxed and observed, days where I was in the studio for a good chunk of the day and cut paper with my tiny scissors, as well as exciting days where we ventured out to a different town or city.
In the end, I created a zine featuring 20 collages. You can flip through it down below! The collages also ended up being a main feature in a solo exhibition, "Whimsy" I did at the Animation Guild in January of 2025.
